Mind Control: Monkey Mind or Wormtongue Ear

It’s called Monkey Mind. A chattering out of control mind…

But it gets even worse!

You could have ‘Wormtongue Ear’… and that is something you can never escape from!

Unless you take steps to rid yourself of the parasite.

I call it ‘Wormtongue Ear’ after the vile character from Lord of the Rings, Gríma Wormtongue.

Wormtongue is the chief advisor to King Théoden but he is really working to weaken Théoden and his kingdom through lies and persuasion…

Worse than incessant chattering of Monkey Mind is Wormtongue Ear, an insidious internal dialogue that is anxious, worried, frightening, and that is self-destructive. Usually it’s an internal dialogue that puts you down and limits you from achieving your dreams.

And Wormtongue Ear can even manifest as a negative internal dialogue you don’t consciously notice that affects your self-esteem, confidence and many other facets of your personality.

‘Wormtongue Ear’ is not good, right!

One of the reasons Om (Aum) or other mantras are chanted during meditations is because it quietens the internal dialogue and stops you from talking to yourself. When you are focusing on your breathing and chanting a sound there really isn’t any room left to critersise yourself.

Inside a Sensory Deprivation tank there is total darkness, no smells, no sounds, and the salty water is at body temperature keeping you buoyant. You float and in that state of almost complete sensory deprivation rather than the mind going quiet, the mind starts to floridly hallucinate.

With a ‘Wormtongue Ear’ a whole hour in a Sensory Deprivation tank could turn into a voyage of terror! Pitch black, no sound, nothing… except the thoughts that: maybe there has been an emergency and everyone has left the building leaving you trapped in the tank… how much oxygen is there in here… will I fall asleep and drown…. help!

With a quiet Mind and no Wormtongue Ear that hour in the Sensory Deprivation tank could be a relaxing and refreshing experience filled with poetic, beautiful, inspired, enlightening visions or thoughts.

Now most of the time you aren’t going to find yourself in a sensory deprivation tank… but those same feelings are still yours to choose. Would you like to have worry, anxiety and doubt… Or would you prefer more confidence, happy thoughts and inspired ideas… the choice is yours.
